Judy Ongg | Taiwanese-Japanese Actress | Full Biography
Judy Ongg, born on January 24, 1950, in Taipei, is a Taiwanese-Japanese singer, actress, author, and woodblock-print artist. She graduated from Sophia University in Tokyo and became a Japanese citizen. Ongg debuted in film in 1961 and achieved fame with her 1979 hit “Miserarete.” She won Best Actress at the Taipei Golden Horse Film Festival and the Special Prize at the Asia Film Festival. Ongg is known for her popular song “The Story of O-Shin,” the Cantonese theme for the hit drama Oshin. She has appeared on NHK’s Minna no Uta and Kōhaku Uta Gassen, acted in dramas and stage productions, and organized a 1999 charity concert for Chi-Chi earthquake survivors.

“Sunny” is an American black comedy television series created by Katie Robbins, based on the novel “The Dark Manual” by Irish writer Colin O’Sullivan. The series premiered on July 10, 2024, on Apple TV+. The story follows Suzie (Rashida Jones), an American living in Kyoto, Japan. After her husband Masa Sakamoto (Hidetoshi Nishijima) and their son go missing in a plane crash, Suzie is given a household robot named Sunny by her husband’s robotics company as a form of consolation. Initially skeptical of the robot, Suzie gradually befriends Sunny, and together they try to uncover what really happened to her husband and son.
Noriko Sakamoto (Judy Ongg) is the mother of Masa Sakamoto. She is a wealthy housewife from an old Kyoto family. She loves her son dearly, so she tries to tolerate her daughter-in-law.
